Someone Else's Shoes

Years gone by, and in the distance travelled I
Find experience is often self abuse
The fabric of my life has come unravelled once or twice
I’ve been wearing thin the soles under my shoes
I walk alone I cut my feet upon the gravel
For what is blood when there is nothing left to lose?
I tramp I trudge I’ve earned each mile that i’ve travelled
Try not to judge me ‘til you’ve walked a mile in someone else’s shoes
Do or die, sometimes the choice ain’t black or white
Shades of rainbow greys add interest for the eye
You wonder why some people prey and some might cry
No more talking get to walking keep your laces tight
I step on stone I cut my feet upon the gravel
These bloody footprints paint the path that I’m to choose
I will not budge I’ll be victorious in battle
Try not to judge me ‘til you’ve walked a mile in someone else’s shoes
Have you ever tried to make a difference?
Have you ever tried to make amends?
Have you ever set aside your fears and really listened?
Have you ever been to where the sidewalk ends?
Straight to the bone I cut my feet upon the gravel
I’ve paid the price, I’ve paid the piper, paid my dues
Until you’ve marked me every meter that I’ve travelled
Try not to judge me…
A gilded tower makes a formidable castle
From up above I’m sure you must enjoy the view
No wall can keep me from the path that I’m to travel
You cannot touch me til you’ve walked a mile inside of my shoes
